How to look fashionable in Winter

A friend said "always wear as if you are about to meet the love of your life" and I fully agree.  Even though I'm not a winter person , I make an effort to dress up. Its not easy but I try. I try not to let the cold dampen my spirit. Even though one needs to cover up,  you can still look fashionably hot. Greatest rule of all is to buy clothes that flatter your body and the rest will follow. I have compliled few tips I consider important for one to look stylish in Winter.

Own a Fabulous trench coat

Invest in 1 or 2 nice trench coats & wear them with high heels. It could be a boot or a shoe but  don't wear trench coats with sneakers & training shoes. No, dont!  Try to keep it chic and classy. Go for neutral colours as they will easily go with everything in your  closet.

Sweaters or Round neck jersey

Invest in round neck jerseys or sweaters. Not a lot of people think of round neck jerseys when they are shopping but they really help.  Nice thing about them they don't only look fashionable but also closes the chest. Round neck jerseys can be worn with shirts underneath or with just nice accessories. Make sure u don't buy a too tight jersey so that you can wear something underneath.

Uggs a definate yay!

Invest in Uggs. Wear them with an oversize jersey, tights and a scarf. They are not just fashionable but also very warm. This is one look you will not regret. I love it for those lazy cold days.

Colour up

Source: Internet
Wear a bit of colour. Try to avoid wearing too dark colors. Colour will lift your mood and give a twist to your ensemble. If you decide to dress in all black be sure to add texture to your outfit with some leather or lace. We can learn one or two things from Blair Underwood in Gossip Girls.

Good quality Pantyhose/ Stockings

Invest in good stocking/ pantyhose. Buy different colours, there's more nice colours out there like blue, grey / maroon. Dont restrict yourself, dare to be different.  Wear stockings with  some of your Summer clothes like skater skirts, pair it with a blazer and an ankle  boot. I find Woolworths's stocking beautiful and of good quality.

Accessories

Accessorize! Invest in accessories they will totally change your outfit think jewelery, snoods, hats, cuffs etc .
Headgear

Most of your body's heat can escape from an uncovered head. Invest in turbans, head wraps big hats, fur hats , small hats & beanies. They will not only warm you but will transform your look.

Please share your own tips. How do you keep warm and fashioble at the same time?

Baby Shower Fashion

I recently attended a friend's babyshower . Its amazing how fashion has evolved at the babyshowers. I loved it , it must have something to do with the person showered. Knowing her, that's how she would have loved
people to look like at her babyshower. Wishing you nothing but the best
Mrs G. I know your bundle of joy
will be a stunner just like her mommy.

Happy productive days ahead

I hope you are having a lovely weekend. Being sick for the past 4 weeks has  been a setback for my blog. Im coming back with a bang though, too many things to do. Trying to build a brand is not easy, means research, meetings and be on top of things. Having summoned to a six weeks bed rest has nt made things easy at all. On a positive note, I'm slowly getting there, so I cant wait to do what I love most. I cant wait to get back on the bandwagon. To all my Christian friends, we need to reflect on what this period means to us, Christians, Good Friday to Easter Monday. Enjoy and be safe.

Lupita does it again at MTV movie awards

Source: Elle Magazine
Lupita is getting good reviews again. There is something that she is definitely doing right. I'm trying to think so hard why is she Hollywood's IT girl? Designers want to dress her for the red carpet. Magazines want to feature her. I'm not trying to be funny at all but if Hollywood wanted an African American "it girl", why her? The only big movie she's been on is -12 years a slave. Why not Kerry Washington, Megan Good, Zoe Saldanha, Tarij. P Henson, Gabriel Union, they have been at it and are very good. They never got this hype.  There is a lot more before her that also deserved to get this hype. I think she is pretty  nevertheless and maybe her personality and attitude has everything to do with her being an IT girl. All I can do is be happy for her and wish her well in her career.

Fashionista of the day

Fashion Friday it is. We talking street fashion. Today's fashionista is Pushy Bonkolo from Umtata. I love her retro look. I love the color and the detail she's added to her maxi dress. The belt, it added another dimension to her outfit. Talking about bringing back the retro. Well done Pushy. What's your thought on Pushy 's ensemble?

Fashionista of the day

Today's fashionista is Nolitha Mqunyana from Johannesburg. A designer of Rayo de Sol label and a business woman. Her ensemble is chic and beautiful. It almost feels as if she did nt have any hustle putting it together. I love the detail. Her high waist skirt which she has designed herself is made from super wool. Her shirt, also made by her is made from Valentino exclusive fabric. I love the touch of a pink shoulder bag, to bring out the colour in her outfit. If you would like to know more about her designer label please e-mail me at cliqcliq@mweb.co.za

Winter closet

Its that time of the year again, when we need to re organise our closets. It feels like yesterday when we first had our first warm Summer days in Cape Town. Its Autumn already and one needs to start packing those Summer clothes away. Swapping fedoras for Turbans. I must say Winter clothing is not my favorite but there are certain winter items that I really love. I have  created 5 Winter inspiration ensembles. If you are  buying winter clothes remember to create a vibrant wardrobe. Mix trendy with classics. Try to be as dynamic as possible. Must haves for this Winter is a leather biker jacket or pull over, biker boots are still trending, brogues, maxi skirts, blazers, oversize sweater or jersey, beige coat and a lot of different accessory. Have you done your winter shopping? What's bomber item in your list. I just got mine a faux leather & denim biker jacket.

Inspired by Louis Vuitton collection

I'm loving Louis Vuitton's latest collection. I'm going to swing by their store at the V&A Waterfront this weekend. I'm not sure if this collection is available here in South Africa. I'm totally in love with this leather skater skirt, its so beautiful.  I love both the color and the detail. It's  a must have for this coming Winter together with this box bag.  What's your thought on this skirt? How much would you be willing to pay for it? I'll post details of my trip to their store later next week.

Food for thought

Well, I'm no motivational speaker but I thought I will post it anyway. There is always a way! Its all about taking one step at a time. Easier said than done I know.  One needs to always remind themselves that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. All that is needed is a bit of perseverance and focus.

Timeless clothing items

These are 6 items I think are timeless in any ladies wardrobe. There is more but to me these ones are core items that can transform your look from a super cool street wear to a classic formal dinner wear.

1.Good pair of jean

A good pair of jean is an investment. When buying one  make sure its for your shape. If you are slim a skinny Jean will look good on you and if you are bootylicious  a straight cut will look good on you. If you have a flat tummy then high rise cut will look good on you. You can find a good pair of jean almost anywhere depending on the price range. For inexpensive pairs look at Woolworths, Zara andTopshop

2.Perfect Blazer

Blazers can turn your look into a super cool, sophisticated look. Invest on them, if you can't afford as many colors as you wish- at least own a black one. If you have a budget for a tailored one, why not take a trip to a tailor. Nice thing with blazers, it will look good with everything in your closet from dresses, skirts, jeans to pants. It can be worn with any shoe from pumps to converse. This is one clothing investment you will truly get a  nice return from.

3. Denim shirt

It's timeless piece that has been around for over a century. Its a hot and  key item for all year round. I saw one recently for a very affordable price a Pick & Pay clothing.  Just try a studded one it  really makes an outfit hot.

4. Little black dress

Every woman should have atleast one black dress and take quality into consideration.  It should  nt show too much cleavage and  not be too short. Refer to my article "Little black dress" for more. A must have for every lady. You can get a nice one at Banana Republic, Mango, Topshop, Mungo&Jemima, MeMeMe & Woolworths.

5.  White t-shirt
A simply item that never goes out of style. If you don't have a white Tees please buy one.

6.  Pencil heel shoe

Almost looks good on any thing. I love pencil heel shoe, whether it's a kitten heel or a high heel.  You can wear them from  weddings to functions to work, almost everywhere.  I find Guess heels comfortable with beautiful shapes and also wont do much dent in your pocket. Just make sure the toe is not too pointy or too rounded.

Is there a
anything you think I have left out? Please share your own timeless items.

Photo of the day

I have been away for far too long but while I was away I got to see so much fashion and style. I appreciate anything beautiful. I love it when people take chances with their clothes. I love it when they make any ensemble looks effortless. Above is such a beautiful ensemble. I love what Yollz has done with the prints. This is swag at its best, you will not get anything better than this. I love it. I hope you agree with me.

Design Indaba Expo

This is one event I love and  always look forward to annually. Seemingly this year I am missing it, the one year I want to attend it so much . Let me explain Designer Indaba for those who don't know it. It is an annual design event held in CTICC ( Cape Town International Conference Centre). It's start from a Monday to a Sunday with local designers showcasing their work. This includes architects, curators & maestros. I for one am looking forward to see Khosi Nkosi, Doreen Southwood &  Laduma Ngxokolo's work. Hopefully they are showcasing their work in this year's event. Their names are not in the lineup list but I'm hopeful anyway -atleast Thula Sindi's name is there .  Laduma Ngxokolo is a man knitwear designer. I love his work. Please take time & read about  him. Doreen Southwood is a women's clothing designer, I'm sure most people are familiar with her work . She is the founder and owner of MeMeMe retail outlets. Same thing with Khosi Nkosi who her beautiful collection is sold at YDE stores nationwide. So if you are in Cape Town next weekend be sure to pop in at Design Indaba Expo you will not regret it. Let's support our local designers.

Enjoying last of Summer days

The past weekend was a reminder that we are still in the silly Summer. The weather was perfect. It was a beautiful hot weekend even the temperature peaked at 40 degrees celsius. I'm one of those people who are not bothered by heat, so to me its a "bring it on ". To make most of such a lovely day my people  decided   to go for sundowners at the beach. Nice thing about our Summer is that the sun is still up at 6 o'clock. Even though we left at 6:30 we still got there in time to watch the sunset.  I wore my brown Lu by Lolita shorts paired  with a denim shirts and an Urban cream hat.
We got there as the sun was setting. It was such a lovely evening, you could feel the sea cooling off the warm breeze that was still there. Each time a hot breeze passed a cool breeze would follow. Had our drinks & then we went down to the beach. We had an amazing time. Perfect time to go to the beach on such a hot day.

We just sat there and gazed at the beach-talking about priceless moments. Nice thing about Blouberg is that, it offers beautiful views of Cape Town like Table Mountain. I also love to watch surfers while they are busy surfing and you are more likely to find them in that side of the city.

Slouchy wide leg pants

Currently making waves in the catwalks. It's a definite yay for me, seemingly they are going to stick around for a very long time. I first owned a slouchy pants back in 2006. It  was a lovely grey silk pant which I used to pair with a gold tank top & high heels. It was then that I fell in love with slouchy pants. If there is any reason for me to buy slouchy pants it's simply because they are comfortable and they are just to gorgeous to pass.  Most people who are used to tight pants can find them intimidating- understandably so as we have be come accustomed to tight fitting clothes  & equating them to femininity. How you wear your slouchy pants will depend on your silhouette. They can be very difficult to pull off more especially pleated ones but once one get it right it looks effortless. You can pair your pants with tight fitting shirt/blouse, crop top or t-shirt. Wearing them with blazers also yields a nice ensemble. I peeped in some stores & on the runways, please take a look at photos below. Would you wear one or have you tried one? What's your take on them?

Metallic Fashion

They have been trending for a while. One thing I love about metallics when they are worn properly they give a sophisticated look. I have been crushing on them for a while. It's crazy because when metallics came out I was never a  fan. I'm glad I have given in and finally came to my senses.  Currently I don't own any piece of metallic clothing but I'm planning to own one very soon. I'm actually angry at myself for not embracing such beauty from the get go. I need  metallic leggings, metallic bomber jacket or a metallic sneaker-Nike to be precise. I want to go big, shinny and sparkle. I have been  shopping around for them  & thanks to a friend who told me about Milq& Honey clothing range.  Milq & Honey is a store  based in Cape Town owned by two sisters. I fell in love with their metallic range.  It's beautiful. So I have decided that next item in my shopping cart is anything metallic. I deserve one.

Drinks with friends

I love all things beautiful. I love time to chill and I love time to play. Yesterday  I met friends for a brunch in a beautiful cozy Durbanville wine estate.  The venue offered spectacular views of the Cape's wineland. The weather was perfect, great for wine tasting, great for picnic and great for those who wanted to chill in the restaurant for lunch. Having no idea what to wear I decide to wear an a line dress, with a flat shoe. Idea was to feel all girly and be comfortable. I complimented my dress with a shaped Hermes black bag. As a wise lady said "spend life with who makes you happy not who you have to impress". Indeed I had an amazing time with the ladies. A great way of ending my Saturday. I managed to take couple of photos.

Fashionista of the day

Fashionista of the day is Nolita from Joburg, South Africa- who happens to be a good friend of mine. When she invited me over for a drink I knew she would blow me away with whatever she is wearing. She never disappoints, she is always on point. She is a born stunner, a true fashionista. She knows her clothes very well. I admired her in her beautiful custom made dress, she carried it with such elegancy. She wore a Steve Madden gold spike platform and a Moschino belt.

Not only this month  is the only month with less than 30 days, its also the only month where love is celebrated. As grown as I am, Valentine's day still excites me.
