Fashion faux that I can't stand

As far as the fashion is concerned, there should not be any boundaries but some people take it too far. There should nt be anything in common between a 40 year old wardrobe and 16 year old wardrobe. There should probably be a pair of jean & a sneaker in common. Here is some few of the fashion faux

1. Wearing skimpy clothes that show off cellulite
Your clothes should always be small enough to cover cellulite.  Skimpy does nt always equates  to sexy. You don't have to go skimpy unless you've got a body for it. unfortunately some clothes needs certain Silhouette.

2. Over-accessorize
Consider the outfit before killing it by over accessorizing . It's easy to make an expensive garment looks cheap because of the accessories used. Busy garments also don't go well with busy accessory. It's true simple is more.

3.Matching outfit

Matching is so 2008. You don't always have to match the dress with your shoes and a bag. That's so retro... Mismatch is in- so move on with times. The fact that it matches does nt always mean it works.

4. Chipped nail polish

Be it in the toes or fingers it just does nt look right. A lady should never leave the house with chipped nail polish.Clean them if you are in a hurry and paint them later when you've got time. Nowadays you can have your nails done at a cheaper price too.

5. Running panty hose/ stocking

A definitely no no. If they run during the day rather take them off. I promise you, you can do better without them. This is one fashion mistake that should not be forgiven. Some people wear it as a fashion statement & it actually makes them look like hobo's. Before you leave the house please make sure your panty hose don't have any holes in them, it's total not a pretty sight.

6. Animal print from head to toe

Different shades maybe can work. In ramps it's possible but not on a normal random  person. Too much animal print just screams jungle. If you have guts then go ahead & try the look but don't say you we're never warned.

7. Sandals/ flops/ crocs with socks

A very very disturbing sight and it has been mentioned too many times. It does nt matter what colour the socks are , colour blocking, animal print or brown, people should never be caught dead with sandals & socks on. Its just not cool...

8. Tights with crop tops
If they say you look nice on that outfit they are probably lying. It may look nice in TV or in the ramp but not in real life situation.  You need to wear a top that goes over your bum, that's standard. Before you go out wearing like this think if is it a sight you would like to see from someone coming in front of you ?

9. Heels/ toes hanging over the shoes/ uncomfortable shoes to walk with

Always make sure you wear the right shoe size. Nothing as unsexy as wearing a good pair of shoes that is smaller. This will lead to a penguin walk syndrome or a walking on egg shell syndrome . Know your shoe size and if you planning on buying shoes always go in the afternoon when your feet are swollen. If the shoe make does n't look good on your feet, try another make . Too many styles and makes to choose from. There is a lot of beautiful shoes out there .

10.Wearing corporate wear with sneakers

Do not! It's just does nt look nice at all, it's a blunder for years. In fact people caught wearing corporate wear with sneakers should be fined.

Workwear .... Free at last

Work wear

Work wear has taken a turn over the years. Fashion lovers no longer feel restricted. I normally listen to my older colleagues when they tell me how things were back then. People were restricted to a certain wear & that was it, a tie for men was a must & women had to wear dresses/ skirts with high heels. Do not get me wrong there is nothing as sexy as a man in his tie, if worn with a proper wear. The fact that now they can go with out ties and look as good & sexy is a plus.  Nowadays there has been freedom at work as far as the wear is concerned. People wear to express themselves. Women no longer feel like black & navy are the only colours to wear.  Bold colours, prints, mismatches have taken over. There is definately a sense of freedom . I get inspired when people at work take the work wear to another level. I love seeing people  exploring and playing around with fashion, show casing their sense of style. There is definately a sense of liberty. I love the fact that I can play around with my clothes.I love mixing items and finding what works for me is not difficult.  My take -as far as any clothing is concerned is that - comfort is the key. As beautiful  a corset is, the fact that you have to squash yourself in it takes away a piece of its beauty. Comfort should always be standard. I love the fact that when I'm wearing my pumps, I feel as pretty as when I'm high on my heels. My favourate clothing is denim, now my denim wear does nt have to wait for a weekend.  I love my denim be it a shirt / a skirt. If i wear it I always bring a touch of formal to it, like a denim shirt & a pencil skirt and pencil heel. That look always win with me or my crop top with my high waist skirt & a pencil heel. I have also invested in low heels that allows easy mobility. There is a lot that one can play with and achieve a professional look.

Turban Fashionista

Solange Knowles in the middle ( Source:Internet)

Turbans have never really left. They have been around for  so many years. Having been re-introduced by celebrities such as Solange Knowles, Tyra Banks, Kate Moss-they are trending this Summer.  Lucky few have turbans which have been passed down to them by their mothers, aunts & grannies. You can wear your turban as a fashion statement. Nice thing about it, is that you can easily do it yourself (as shown in pic2).  They come in different colours as well. It's a perfect accessory that every girl should have and it adds another dimension to any outfit. They are also a saving grace on those bad hair days. Bright colour scarfs, African  prints , animal prints or silk scarf can be used to make a turban. They give a boho chic look to an out fit and they can be worn with dresses or jeans. You can also glam up your turban by a brooch. There is something about a girl in a turban, every girl should be able to do one or atleast have one. Turbans are available at A-List normally less than R200,00. They are also available in some vintage shops around Cape Town.

African Print trending

Different prints

African print is a definitely a must have in any woman's wardrobe at the moment ... It has been trending for a while now. It could be a drop crotch pant, a high waist skirt, dress or a crop top. It is just a must have. First time I saw the peacock eye pattern, I could nt help myself but fell in love with it. I have spotted few worn by some of the South African designers & it is also trending in the streets in what is known as Loxion Kulca. A South African style influenced by township culture.

Green body hugging, three quarter dress dressed down with All star

Who does nt love the classic All Star
This three quarter dress can be worn anytime, anywhere. It can be worn on a girl's night out with a pencil heel to give it a more sexy feel, can be worn to work and on a business date. It can also can be worn on a food market on a lazy Saturday by down-dressing it   with an all star. The dress works best when the accessory is minimal. You could use a gold chain to give it a life or a black belt when up-dressing it. Such a beautiful dress that could be worn in many ways, love the print and the rich colour.   Every girl deserves such dress in their closet.

The military green outfit- A Yay or a Nay

Millitary green
Love the easiness in this outfit & yet it gives out an elegant look. I quickly put this outfit together and  I had a comfortable outfit for work. The pants are very comfortable, easy and also very stylish. Not many items can be stylish and comfortable at the same time. So do not pass your comfortable clothes in your wardrobe they can easily transform you to a stylish babe....

10 things I would tell my younger self

1. Life is a long journey , always be prepared
2. Don't hold grudges
3. Anything is possible in life, you can be who ever & whatever you want to be.
4. As you grow older you will realize the importance of your family& that friends may not always be there but  your family will always be there
5. Do not be afraid to fail as in every failure there is a lesson
6. Trust in God, have faith and believe .
7. There is always going to be someone better than you
8. People treat you the way you want them to treat you
9. Hearts get broken but do not ever let that stand in your way of love, always give your all in every relationship & love as if you have never loved before. You will be surprised!
10. Wisdom comes with age , listen to your mother

Well since I can't tell these to my younger self, I guess I will tell them to my daughter .

Love the blonde braids...

Braids , black, blonde or brown, in whatever colour they come. They are very easy to maintain and style. Long or short they can go with any outfit depending on the way that they are styled. All one has to make sure of is that the colour suits their complexion. I love the braids with fringe as well , they compliment the loxion kulcha style. They are so stylish and are trending at the moment.

Maintainance is so easy and so cheap & they can last atleast up to two months. Braids needs  to be washed atleast once a week , with any shampoo and conditioner. Then to give them a shiny feeling , you can use hair sprays or hair oils for braids.

Purpose in life

What is your purpose in life? That should be a question you ask your self every morning... Who are u? Why are u here for ? Often I have find people not knowing who they are. Not knowing their true purpose.

Knowing yourself , is not just about knowing who you are and where you are from. Knowing one's self is being able to define your true purpose in life. Finding your true calling. You wil not know who you are unless u know where u come from and where you going... Is where you are right now & what you do right now , your true calling?

Purpose in life is not defined by materialistic things we possess but by finding a our true calling. By doing the things that gives us gratification, by small things we know deep down in our hearts, we desire & love....

So many times, we find asking ourselves, if can I do it? Who am I to shine? Many times we know but are so scared of what the next person will say. Scared of falling & failing. Scared of , I told u so...

I ask again, who are u & what is your purpose in life?
